On March 18, trainees of the “New Media Era Chinese Classics Wisdom and Traditional Culture Advanced Training Program” at Peking University, under the guidance of mentor Shen Liming, launched a themed study‑tour titled “Dialogue with History.” Within a single day they visited Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and Prince Gong’s Mansion, extending classroom knowledge to historic sites.
At 9 a.m., the group gathered for a group photo at Tiananmen Square. Shen Liming delivered on‑site teaching, pointing out that Tiananmen is not only a Beijing landmark but also a symbol of the nation’s spirit, encouraging participants to feel the weight of its history. Afterwards, the team entered the Forbidden City through the Meridian Gate, moving along the central axis to focus on the Hall of Supreme Harmony, Hall of Central Harmony, and Hall of Preserving Harmony. The guide explained the craftsmanship and symbolism of the ten animal figures on the roof ridges; Shen Liming added the correspondence between the palace layout and the I Ching’s yin‑yang and five‑elements theory, emphasizing the ancient craftsmen’s spirit of “reverence for heaven and earth, pursuit of perfection.”
In the afternoon, the group transferred to Prince Gong’s Mansion. In the Silver Peace Hall, the guide described Prince Gong’s (Yixin) aspirations and limitations in the Self‑Strengthening Movement; beside the garden’s “Bat Pond,” fallen elm seeds formed a “money‑falling treasure basin” scene, prompting trainees to admire the ancient garden concept of “unity of heaven and man.” Shen Liming concluded that the delicacy of Prince Gong’s Mansion contrasts with the grandeur of the Forbidden City, together showcasing the complementary strength and softness of Chinese culture.
Before departure, Shen Liming stood beside the coach and said: “History is not merely memory; it is a guide for the future. I hope you bring the craftsmanship, reverence, and innovation embodied in these ancient structures back to your enterprises, allowing traditional culture to rejuvenate modern management.” Trainees responded that the trip offered a zero‑distance encounter with history, deepening their understanding of how classical wisdom connects to contemporary business, and they will transform these insights into cultural drivers for high‑quality corporate development.
