Zi Wei Dou Shu uses the North Star as its central pivot, constructing a metaphysical system that blends astronomy, philosophy, and statistics through the interplay of the Northern and Southern Dipper Stars and He-Luo numerological principles.

Traditionally attributed to Chen Tuan (Chen Xiyi) of the Northern Song Dynasty, who synthesized astronomy, I Ching principles, and Feng Shui, it stands as one of the two primary schools of Chinese destiny analysis, alongside Ba Zi. Its reputation for precision has earned it the title "Foremost Mystical Art in the World." The term "Zi Wei Dou Shu" itself embodies not just scientific observation of celestial phenomena but also integrates profound philosophical contemplation on destiny, human nature, and cosmic laws from traditional Chinese culture.

  1. Zi (Purple): Symbolizes nobility and the primordial origin of the cosmos, reflecting the supreme nature of destiny.

  2. Wei (Minute): Emphasizes meticulous analysis and a microscopic perspective, uncovering the subtle variances in a human life.

  3. Dou (Dipper): Represents the movement of constellations and dynamic balance, metaphorically illustrating the conflicts and harmonies within fate.

  4. Shu (Number): Embodies mathematical quantification and systematic deduction, revealing the inherent patterns of destiny.

I. The Basic Methodology of Zi Wei Dou Shu Destiny Calculation:

It determines an individual's Life Palace based on their birth year, month, day, and hour. From this palace, inferences are made about their lifelong status, personality, wealth, poverty, fortunes, and misfortunes. Subsequently, it sequentially establishes the following palaces: Siblings, Spouse, Children, Wealth and Property, Health and Maladies, Migration, Friends and Associates, Career and Endeavors, Property and Home, Virtue and Fortune, and Parents, to form the natal chart. By observing the combinations of star groups in each palace, the specific metaphysical destiny is deduced. Finally, attention is given to the trajectories of change influenced by the Four Transformations Stars (Transformation of Influence [Hua Ke], Transformation of Prosperity [Hua Lu], Transformation of Power [Hua Quan], and Transformation of Hindrance [Hua Ji]).

II. Distinctive Characteristics of Zi Wei Dou Shu:

  1. It can provide concrete explanations for the auspiciousness or inauspiciousness, nobility or baseness, fortunes or misfortunes in a person's destiny, moving beyond abstract generalizations.

  2. Through the twelve palaces of the destiny chart, Zi Wei Dou Shu systematically and comprehensively predicts the complex social relationships and personal experiences of an individual's entire life. Its logical framework is rigorous, being relatively accessible and formulaic yet allowing for intricate deductions, possessing a high degree of mathematical reasoning and profundity.

Within Chinese metaphysical culture, Zi Wei Dou Shu ranks first among the Five Great Divine Numbers and was historically known as the "Learning of Emperors." It amalgamates the studies of the I Ching, Yin-Yang and the Five Elements, Four Pillars and Eight Characters (Ba Zi), astrology, astronomy, and statistics, representing the crystallized wisdom of our ancestors.

As a metaphysical system with a Daoist lineage, Zi Wei Dou Shu is deeply involved with the Daoist worldview and incorporates Confucian thought. Combined with the concepts of the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, Yin-Yang, and the Five Elements, it forms a rare instance in the history of Chinese esoteric arts that emphasizes social environment and the philosophical implications of interpersonal relationships. It can also be regarded as one of China's earliest forms of "Psychology."

As the saying goes, "Investigate things, extend knowledge, make intentions sincere, rectify the heart, cultivate the person, regulate the family, govern the state, bring peace to the world." Zi Wei Dou Shu can effectively start from a person's inner world, helping individuals understand themselves, discover their own strengths and weaknesses, and play a corresponding guiding role in our life planning. Through enhanced self-awareness, it aids in adjusting mindset, optimizing interpersonal relationships, and improving one's social environment, thereby achieving the effect of "Knowing Destiny to Transform Fortune."
